The ministry of hospitality offers the chance to serve the community and a great way to meet lots of people.

Upcoming Events:

  • 2010 NIK Retreat – Northern Illinois Koinonia (the Greek word for “community”) is the college student retreat held each semester. This spring's retreat will be on February 19-21, 2010 at the Bishop Lane Retreat Center in Rockford.  The cost is $25.  Download information about the retreat here; download the retreat application here.

  • 2010 NIU Spring Break Service Trips - Join other NIU students for a week of fun, faith and helping others. The cost is only $75 and covers transportation, food and a place to live! More information and applications are available in the Newman lobby, or you may contact Campus Minister, Denise Sanders at 815-787-7770, ext. 30. Applications are available in the lobby. Completed applications and a $40 deposit are due Monday, January 25, 2010.

Ongoing Activities:

  • Coffee and Donuts - A time of fellowship and free coffee and donuts after the 10:15 a.m. Mass each Sunday during the school year.
  • Blessing of the Animals – Each year on or near the Feast of St. Francis in October.
  • Friday Night Fish Fry – One Friday a month all year round, and every Friday during Lent. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Pick up a schedule in the Newman Lobby or contact Grand Knight Andrew Nelms at andrew.nelms@gmail.com.
  • Pancake Breakfasts - Watch the bulletin for dates of the delicious pancake breakfasts sponsored by the Knights of Columbus after the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass.
  • Pizza Nugget Nights - College students are treated to free pizza nuggets and pop after the 9:00 p.m. Mass on the first four Sundays of the semester, and then every other Sunday after that.
  • Rosary - Gather in prayer each Tuesday night at 8:30 in the church.
  • 24 Hour Study - The Newman Center is open all day and all night during NIU finals week. Free snacks - both the healthy and junk food kind - help fuel the students through their exams, and a free supper is served on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
